The Black Crowes are having a break. Lead singer Chris Robinson has created a new band called New Earth Mud, in which he has moved on.
He seems to have slowed down and grown up a bit since the Crowes, which will be a shame if the Crowes never return as I loved that raucous, loud, early Crowes stuff.
New Earth Mud is cool though, with that "tight but loose" thing still very much present, albeit in a calmer and more reflective style. There's a proper review here, but I think I will be asking for this one for Christmas.....

NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown.com - featuring such items as Biscuit of the Week and "The Wife Says". Good work!
NiceCupOfTeaAndASitDown.com are also friends of the B3TA Collective who (I think) were responsible for that "Pretty Thick" Big Brother Jade song a while back. They're worth a quick look and also have a nice "picture in picture" thing going on on at the moment. The bloke in the picture looks like he might spend a fair amount of time doing this sort of thing and not too much time going outside, but it's a good effort nonetheless.

So, I finally got a Mac :) and it is gorgeous.
I've been playing with Linux as well recently, and found the Linux-specific Google very useful. I figured they just did that because Google runs on a massive farm of Linux servers.
Just taking a punt, I had a go at sticking /mac on the google URL, and whaddaya know? - there's a mac-specific google - ideal!
(there's also a UK variant on this theme that I use as well, but it's not quite as effective on sorting results).

Somewhere Near - saw a presentation by the bloke who wrote this yesterday. It's all Open Source, written for love not money, and is superb.
You just give it your present postcode and it can tell you what good Pubs/Curry Houses/B&B's etc are nearby. What's even better is that they are rated by other users, so you can get an impression of how good the place is.
Everyone use it and build the free database.........

IBM Research | Projects | Blue Gene - the world's fastest supercomputer will run on Linux.
This bad boy will even kick Earth Simulator's ass by a factor of 10.

The Easter Egg Archive - that's the geeky type of Easter Egg, not the chocolate / bunny type. Find all that unnecessary code in your software.......

This news article at Silicon seems to suggest that Palm and Apple might be talking:
"Palm will soon announce it has licensed its operating system to several more hardware companies, Nagel said, although he wouldn't be drawn on whether Apple, where he was once head of R&D for the Mac and Mac OS, and Legend, China's largest PC vendor and a key bridgehead into that giant market, are on the roster."
Dell's PDA offering is previewed here if you're interested, but it's just another iPaq to me.

The Pulpit - Cringely introduces us to Mike Doyle.
We like Mike Doyle.

Sutty's mac site.

Palladium is bad news I reckon, and you won't find me touching it with a barge pole.
I'm with Cringeley - check his old articles on it here and here. There was even some talk somewhere about the possibility of Microsoft destabilising IPv4 somehow to promote Palladium as the default replacement protocol for the internet. That is a nightmare in the making, I tell you.
I say everyone should use a Macintosh or Linux wherever possible, or even Solaris or some other UNIX if you're geeky enough - Microsoft already own too much on my desktop and I'm not giving them my data and my network as well.........

"Freedom and the future of the Net: why we win" - an Open Source seminar by Prof. Eben Moglen. MP3's are available here.
I haven't listened to them yet, but Linux User Magazine reckon he's pretty good.
