You know how sometimes you'll be watching TV, and something will grab your attention? Just for a few seconds as you hop between channels maybe, or as you come back in to the room at the end of an advert break. Anyway, that happened to me, and I grabbed a scrap of paper and scrawled down the title of a short film: "There Was a Man". All I could tell was that it was a bit dark, and featured Jessica Stevenson, who is Daisy in Spaced. Yesterday, I was sorting through a mound of paper on my desk, and found the note, and have now found the film at BBC - Talent - New Film Makers Award, BBC Three; it was the winner. Weird, disturbing, dark and stylish.
You can view it and some of the other contenders there - check it out.

Linus on the Windows source code leak:
"It makes the sources potentially more available to crackers, and that has security issues - but I don't think that is anything really new," Linux founder Linus Torvalds told ChannelWeb. "At most, it just makes it easier for a bored teenager to find the thing. It may make some people realize that the protection of proprietary shrouded source code really isn't a protection at all. It's just a guarantee that the code doesn't get any good outside code review.".

More info on the Hitch Hikers movie here at douglasadams.com, including confirmed castings. Not sure about it really, but at least they haven't cast anyone uber-famous (yet). Rumour has it that Bill Nighy is high in the running for the Slartibartfast role (notice that imdb already show him as having landed it).

Justin Frankel talks to Rolling Stone - the man who dreamt up winamp and gnutella believes in morality and karma, and thinks you should buy the records you like listening to.

Went to see Bobby Previte live at the CBSO Centre last night. Jazz is not my normal cup of tea, but this was interesting; the first set was with the Constellation Ensemble, and was proper, way-out there Jazz (grreat, nice etc) set to the paintings of Joan Miro (lots of stuff like this). Kind of weird, but interesting.
The second set, however, was different; it was a trio, with Bobby Previte on drums and electronic percussion, DJ Logic on turntables and Charlie Hunter on 8-string guitar. It was cool; Bobby Previte is great on the drums, DJ Logic did some awesome stuff and Charlie Hunter has to be seen to be believed; the top two strings of the guitar are bass, and the rest are a normal guitar, so he plays the bassline and the riffs simultaneously. The whole thing was a jam, really, so it ebbed and flowed, but several times I thought that the sound would not be out of place on groove salad or something.
All in all, a great night out, hearing something different. If you're interested, the concert will be broadcast on Jazz on 3 on BBC Radio 3 on February 20th.
Guhrrrreat ;)

The Creatures In My Head. And that's enough for today.

The flat earth FAQ. I don't know why this appeals to me really, but it does.

Latest IE patch fixes a whole bunch of serious security issues. This is really getting stupid: ".......critical flaw in Internet Explorer that could allow malicious coders to take control of an unwary user's PC.......".
I like firebird; it's a better browser by miles.
