PC Pro is a UK PC magazine, and is probably the best of the bunch. What has caught my eye this month is the Office Suites Labs, where various Office Suites are compared and reviewed.
Now, that sounds like pretty boring stuff, and indeed it is. But what is exciting is that the winner (and new PC Pro "A-List" Office Suite) is Open Office 1.1.2.
This is exciting because
(a) PC Pro are self-confessed Microsoft fans / advocates / fanatics, and
(b) Open Office is Open Source.
It is a sign of change (I hope) when even PCPro are advocating the use of Open Source alternatives over Microsoft software, and is good news because they are publicising the cause. I just hope people start giving it a go (note that OpenOffice is still too clunky on OS X as it uses X11, so unless you're a geek, I wouldn't bother using it on the Mac just yet).

One for the geeks, from the Register: a report on Windows versus Linux security that dispels all Microsoft's claims in what seems to be a relatively scientific manner. It should be noted that the author is a Linux advocate though, but it still holds up pretty well.
Microsoft have obviously been getting up the noses of the open source community, and if you're interested, it's probably worth reading the Joint Statement from Debian, Mandrake, Red Hat and SuSE that was posted in response to a Forrester report back in April.

I'm a fan of U2 and of Apple stuff, so the fact that the new U2 single is being promoted heavily at Apple is cool. Check out the video here (iTunes required).
If you're unfortunate enough to use a jukebox other than iTunes then you can watch a 30 second version here.

Google Weblog - interesting geek stuff.

Turns out that the new Star Wars DVD set went through an image restoration process by a company called Lowry Digital Images, using 600 PowerMac G5's.
